On December 18th the students of the Primary Division presented “Dear Santa”, a musical play which surely helped the audience get into the holiday spirit and reminded everyone about the true meaning of Christmas. From Junior Kindergarten to Grade 3, the students all performed amazingly well showcasing their singing, dancing and acting talents. We have such talented kids in our Primary Division, and without a doubt, they gave it their all! As they emailed, texted, posted, tweeted and Skyped to get their messages to Santa, the message of the true meaning of Christmas was revealed. Bravo to all!
We are very proud that four of our Newton's Grove School's students auditioned and were immediately accepted into the Etobicoke Youth Band. This year marks the 32nd anniversary of the Etobicoke Youth Band. Founded in 1982, the band has over 100 students each year. The members range in age between 12 and 18 and attend different schools in the surrounding Greater Toronto Area. Our students attend weekly rehearsals and performed in an outstanding concert at the University of Toronto's Macmillan Theatre. Congratulations to all of you!
I would like to personally congratulate Amandeep Singh, Caleb Michalski, and Ali Bush for being selected to participate in the Ontario Honour Band this past November. The Honour Band is formed every year to participate in a four day intensive workshop, rehearsal and concert program. Amandeep, Caleb and Ali were selected as part of the top fifty student musicians in Ontario. After two days of nine hour rehearsals, the students performed a series of concerts throughout the Hamilton and Niagara area, finishing their concerts at the Ontario Music Educators Association (OMEA) conference.
Their concert was outstanding, and although the kids were very tired, their energy and musicianship was outstanding. It was very encouraging to find out that the bulk of students came from three very large high schools, and Newton’s Grove! I was personally thanked by the organizer and the conductor for bringing such excellent musicians. Way to go, Amandeep, Caleb, and Ali!
A huge congratulations to our Senior Girls Basketball team! They had a string of great games and came out as champions of the 2013/2014 U20 Girls Basketball SSAF Championship. We are so proud!
On Friday December 6th, WINGS held the annual Christmas Food and Toy Drive. All of the donations were sent with the Toronto Police Foundation to go to multiple women’s shelters and needy families in our community. It was another successful year, and we are very grateful to all the families who donated food and toys, and all the WINGS members who helped in organizing the event.
This is the first time we’ve used iPads to complete a project. Ms. Taylor helped the students design and create their very first stop motion videos.
This stop motion movie "Silly Pirates" was created by three Grade 2 students: Abhishek, David and Dylan.
"Pets in the Park" was created by two grade 2 students: Jaya and Alyssa.
"Pets in Action" was created by Stefanie, Emily and Catherine
