Newton’s Grove School news: February 2014

Newton's Grove celebrates GOLD in Hockey!

We are thrilled about the Canadian Women’s Hockey win!

Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Last week, the school continued its history of wonderful Intermediate/Senior productions with its staging of Ferris Bueller's Day Off at the Assembly Hall theatre. For those of us old enough to remember the 80's, it was a fun-filled trip down nostalgia lane complete with jean jackets, neon designs and keyboard inspired music. The performance was an absolute delight! Both Mr. Roberts and Mrs. Hewitt would like to thank the tremendous effort put forth by all those involved. The cast spent countless hours after school rehearsing and gave up weekends to pull off an amazing and nearly flawless show (save for one broken table!). We'd also like to wish farewell to our departing grade 12 cast members: Ali Bush, Anam Inander, Harleen Padwal, Nicole Meffe, Jasmeen Natt and Srishti Taneja. Their contributions to the school’s drama productions over the years have been inspirational and deeply appreciated.

Two big performances from a very musical student

A big congratulations to Caleb Michalski, who performed two concerts with the Hannaford Youth Band as well as a side by side concert with the Hannaford Silver Street Band at the St. Lawrence Centre For the Performing Arts. The Hannaford Youth Program (HYP) is a fantastic group of brass and percussion players who are all advanced high school and university/college students.

Caleb also performed the following week with the Youth Band at the Church of the Redeemer with special guest, world renowned euphonium soloist, Robert Miller. Congratulations, Caleb; we are very proud of you!

Intermediate Girls' Basketball Championship!

Congratulations to the Intermediate Girls’ Basketball team for winning the PSAA U14 championship! The girls went undefeated in the tournament with four wins and one tie. The competition was fierce with two games ending on buzzer beater shot! The championship game came down to the wire; Newton’s Grove came back from a 7 point deficit in the last few minutes to win by 1! Great job to all the players: Emily, Chadanpreet, Caroline, Ye Won, Teah, Sana, Iman, Alessia, Anisa, Do Yeon, Sarah, Alexandra and In Seo.
