Public Speaking

Intermediate

The intermediate public speaking competition was held on February 3rd, and the speakers were particularly impressive.  Our judges from the Optimist International Club were Mr. Gus Imodio and Mr. Jim Linge. They were hard-pressed to pick clear winners since the quality of public speaking was so high. Students spoke on the official topic: How My Optimism Will Help Me Press On To 'Greater Achievements of the Future,’ and it was encouraging to hear how our students plan to achieve greatness. The winning speakers were as follows:  Aidan Soth (Grade 7) and Emily Yeung (Grade 8). Congratulations to our winners and to all finalists!

Seniors

Senior public speaking was held on February 4th, and this year’s competitors did an excellent job.  Our judges from the Optimist International Club were impressed with the performers and commented particularly on the strength of the grade 9 and 10 speakers. Students spoke on the official topic: How My Optimism Will Help Me Press On To 'Greater Achievements of the Future,’ and it is clear that our future is in good hands. The winning speakers were as follows: Alessia Rizzo (Grade 9), Helen Dalton (Grade 10), Emily Wuschnakowski (Grade 11) and Nikita Thakkar(Grade 12), with Emily being named the overall winner. The winners and some second place finishers will now go on to compete at the club level. Congratulations to our winners, and best of luck in the next round!

PSAA Swim Meet

On Wednesday, January 14th, the Newton’s Grove Swim Team had a fantastic day at the PSAA Swim Meet at the Etobicoke Olympium. The coaches were very proud of the efforts of all the swimmers, and many personal bests were achieved. Way to go, Knights!!
