2019 Optimist Oratorical Competition

On Tuesday, April 8th, the local Optimist Oratorical Competition took place at the Etobicoke Civic Centre. Newton’s Grove was well represented by two of our grade 12 students, Emily Yeung and Miley Kim. They both spoke exceptionally well, as did all of the speakers, and the judges had the difficult decision of picking who would move on to the next level. In the end, Miley came in first and Emily came in second! Both are now able to move on to the Zone competition later in April. Congratulations Miley and Emily! Mr. Spurrell, their English teacher, is truly proud of both of them and commented on how impressed he was with their deliveries.

Newton's Grove School Students Participate at the Durham Regional Science Fair

We are so very proud of our students, Daniel McNabney, in grade 7, who won First Place at the Durham Regional Science Fair on Saturday April 6th. And Michael Husu, in grade 9, who earned Second Place. Daniel’s study of the flammability of fabric softeners was unique and innovative, and Michael’s study of the effect of temperature on the tuning of musical instruments was very well executed.

Congratulations to you both! We are thrilled for you and your accomplishments!
