Day of Truth and Reconciliation: Honoring Indigenous Voices Citizenship, Community As we approach the Day of Truth and Reconciliation, our school community comes together to recognize the importance of this day and to honor the experiences of Indigenous peoples. We believe in the power of education to foster understanding, empathy, and positive change. To commemorate this significant day, we will be holding a whole-school assembly on Monday, September 30th, and we extend a warm invitation to all parents and guardians to join us. This gathering will feature educational presentations that highlight the rich cultural heritage and ongoing challenges faced by Indigenous communities. On this very significant day we also invite our students to wear an orange shirt in commemoration of the Indian Residential School Survivor Phyllis Webstad, whose freedom to wear this very colour was literally stripped from her! Commemorating this day with our whole-school assembly is our way of coming together to honour the children who survived Indian Residential Schools, to remember those who did not, to reflect on the historical significance, and reaffirm our commitment to reconciliation and mutual respect.
