A Major Milestone for Newton’s Grove Alum Kannan Bloor

Newton’s Grove is proud to celebrate another incredible alumni achievement as Kannan Bloor, Class of 2021, continues to make his mark in the world of music.

On January 11, 2026, Kannan won the prestigious University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition – an impressive accomplishment that highlights both his talent and dedication as a musician. This follows his earlier victory in the University of Toronto Winds Concerto Competition in 2024, placing him among a select group of exceptional students at the Faculty of Music to have won both competitions.

Currently completing his master’s degree at the University of Toronto, Kannan remains a familiar face within the NGS community. Many of our music students know him as Mr. Bloor, having worked closely with him through mentorship and support in the Newton’s Grove music program since graduating.

As part of his recent achievement, Kannan will perform Concerto for Alto Saxophone by Pierre-Max Dubois during the University of Toronto’s 2026–27 concert season.

We are incredibly proud to see Kannan’s continued success and grateful for the impact he continues to have on young musicians at NGS. Congratulations, Kannan!
