An Update from our Head of School, Dr. Glenn Zederayko Academics The safety and well-being of everyone in our community continues to be our priority as we adapt and respond to the current situation. The team at Newton’s Grove has been working together remotely over the past weeks to prepare for the online delivery of our curriculum. On Monday, March 30th, we launched our return-to- learning program and began offering our students online learning of the quality, depth and excellence that is the hallmark of a Newton’s Grove education. Our teachers continue to work full-time from home to deliver their classes in real time as scheduled. Our teachers use Edsby to provide interactive lessons, allowing students regular, scheduled access to them. Our goals, as always, are to engage our students’ curiosity, to further their learning, and to build the skills and knowledge they will need for success when regular classes resume. We are cognizant of the impact of this virus on our daily lives, and we are aware of how fluid the situation is. However, we have the team, the expertise, the passion and the means to provide a dynamic learning experience for our students, and we are determined to offer them nothing less. Temporary Online Learning at Newton’s Grove Includes: Classes delivered in real time, meaning that all classes are proceeding as scheduled. Interactive lessons are being provided through Edsby, allowing students regular, scheduled access to their teachers. Zoom, teacher-lead lessons and tutoring sessions allow us to have face-to-face interactions in each class, connecting our students with their teachers and with each other. Curriculum tailored to the learning needs of each division. For Intermediate and Senior students, we believe maintaining the integrity of the timetable is essential, so students and parents know precisely when to expect new lessons and feedback on submitted assignments. For Primary and Junior students, the timing is more flexible as individual teachers plan daily interactive lessons. We offer “all” of our curriculum online, including specialist programs such as Music, Phys. Ed., French and Computers. For many students, these are their favourite courses, and keeping them in the schedule is paramount to maintaining engagement with our students. The key to our success has been the dedication and hard work of our teachers. At all levels, our teachers are regularly and actively preparing as they deliver an interactive and dynamic curriculum online. There is an inspiring collaboration and sense of common purpose in our efforts. There are many challenges ahead, but none that we cannot solve together.
