Math and Computing Contests Academics Earlier this month, students in grades 4-10 wrote the Beaver Computing Challenge offered by the University of Waterloo. The Beaver Computing Challenge (BCC) introduces computer science to students. It is a problem-solving contest with a focus on computational and logical thinking. Questions are inspired by topics in computer science but only require comfort with concepts found in the mathematics curricula that is common to all provinces. It is designed to get students with little or no previous experience excited about computing. You can read more about the BCC here. On November 17th, we had over 60 students from grades 9-12 who wrote the Canadian Intermediate and Senior Mathematics Contest that is also offered by the University of Waterloo. The Canadian Senior and Intermediate Mathematics Contests (CSMC and CIMC) are two contests designed to give students the opportunity to have fun and to develop their mathematical problem-solving ability. You can learn more about these here.
