Newton’s Grove Welcomes Superfan Nav Bhatia, Premier Doug Ford, Mayor Carolyn Parrish, and NBA Superstar Satnam Singh for Superfan Fantasy Basketball Camp

This week, Newton’s Grove School proudly hosted the Nav Bhatia Superfan Fantasy Basketball Camp for the third year in a row.

It was an honour to welcome Nav and his foundation once again, an organization that champions sportsmanship, leadership, and the lifelong lessons learned through team sports. We’re proud to stand with him in offering this incredible experience to young athletes from across the GTA.

For three full days, approximately 300 students arrived ready to be immersed in the energy and excitement of being “drafted” into the NBA. Campers, ranging in age from 5 to 14, were each given the royal treatment: personalized lockers, full uniforms (jersey and shorts), and an official Nav Bhatia Superfan basketball.

From the moment they arrived, the atmosphere was electric. Each camper was introduced like a rising NBA star, complete with music, lights, cheering fans, high-fives, and dance moves as they made their way through the crowd.

Once the introductions were done, it was time to hit the court. Students rotated through drills and skills sessions led by experienced coaches, focusing on fundamentals like passing, dribbling, teamwork, and hustle.

A special highlight came on August 20, when Satnam Singh, the first NBA player from India, now a pro wrestler, dropped in to work with the kids on their lay-ups and slam dunks. His presence brought huge excitement and inspiration to the gym.

The day became even more memorable with the surprise appearance of Ontario Premier, Doug Ford, who came out to show his support for Nav’s camp, the young athletes, and the Newton’s Grove community. He was joined by the Mayor of Mississauga, Carolyn Parrish, and members of the Peel Regional Police, whose presence added to the sense of encouragement and community spirit that filled the gym.

As the final day wrapped up, the energy hadn’t faded. Smiles were everywhere, and the message was clear: this camp isn’t just about basketball; it’s about building character, confidence, and community.

A huge thank you goes out to Nav Bhatia, all the families, sponsors, volunteers, and staff who helped make this event such a success. All of us at Newton’s Grove are proud to play a part in shaping the next generation of leaders – on and off the court.
