The Junior School at Newton’s Grove builds students' self-esteem and stokes his or her inherent curiosity through inquiry-based learning. The focus at this stage is on nurturing students to develop skills at his or her own pace within a stimulating program.
Led by faculty who are personally committed to the development of each student, our Junior School exceeds the expectations of the Ontario Curriculum at each grade level. All strands of the Ontario Curriculum for each subject are covered and enriched with a wide variety of supplementary resources.
The school follows a skills-based approach to learning that emphasizes the fundamentals as well as critical thinking and problem-solving skills. As students progress, the focus broadens to include the development of independent study and work habits, with extra-curricular activities to complement our increasingly rigorous academics.
A child's first experiences at school can set the tone for his or her entire scholastic career. Kindergarten at Newton's Grove is the ideal introduction to education for young students. Our full-day JK and SK programs offer a stimulating experience in a friendly and supportive environment. Our goal at this stage is to build students' confidence and spark an excitement about learning that will last a lifetime.
Both JK and SK programs include daily lessons in Language, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies—plus French, Physical Education, Art, Drama, Music and Computer Studies taught by specialist teachers.
Students in Grades 1, 2 and 3 at Newton's Grove can expect a well-rounded experience in which they are supported and encouraged to continue developing skills at their own pace. Participation in extra-curricular activities is emphasized—both to balance academics and foster skills like teamwork. Students begin to develop strong independent study and work habits now, in preparation for later, more advanced studies.

In grades 4 - 5 at Newton’s Grove continues to foster each student's inherent curiosity, while increasing daily responsibilities and homework at a closely-monitored rate. Focus at this stage is on critical thinking, problem-solving, and practicing the independent work habits essential for success in later grades.
In Grade 4 and 5, the program features a well-developed curriculum that incorporates all strands of the Ontario Curriculum for each subject—Language, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Social Science, Computer Studies, French, Visual Arts, Drama, Music, Physical Health and Education—as well as a wide variety of supplementary resources to enrich all subject areas.
By the end of Grade 5, students are becoming independent thinkers, with the knowledge, skills and work ethic they will need to thrive in Middle School and beyond.
There's never a dull moment for students in Grades 4 and 5, at Newton's Grove. With more complex tasks requiring independent thought and effort, a rigorous physical education program, and a dynamic music program that focuses on performance skills, being challenged becomes second nature for our Juniors.
The result? Confident individuals who are capable of taking on any challenge, fearlessly—whether it's applying the Four-Step Problem Solving Model on a math test or performing a solo at our annual Arts and Music Night.
