Cultivating confidence and encouraging curiosity

The Primary Division at Newton’s Grove builds students' self-esteem and stokes his or her inherent curiosity through inquiry-based learning. Focus at this stage is on nurturing students to develop skills at his or her own pace within a stimulating program.

Led by faculty who are personally committed to the development of each student, our Primary Program exceeds the expectations of the Ontario Curriculum at each grade level. All strands of the Ontario Curriculum for each subject are covered and enriched with a wide variety of supplementary resources.

The program follows a skills-based approach to learning that emphasizes the fundamentals as well as critical thinking and problem-solving skills. As students progress, focus broadens to include the development of independent study and work habits, with extra-curricular activities to complement our increasingly rigorous academics.

Junior and Senior Kindergarten

Inspiring a love of learning from day one

A child's first experiences at school can set the tone for his or her entire scholastic career. Kindergarten at Newton's Grove is the ideal introduction to education for young students. Our full-day JK and SK programs offer a stimulating experience in a friendly and supportive environment. Our goal at this stage is to build students' confidence and spark an excitement about learning that will last a lifetime.

Both JK and SK programs include daily lessons in Language, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies—plus French, Physical Education, Art, Drama, Music and Computer Studies taught by specialist teachers.

Grades 1, 2, and 3

A strong start for bright young minds

Students in Grades 1, 2 and 3 at Newton's Grove can expect a well-rounded experience in which they are supported and encouraged to continue developing skills at their own pace. Participation in extra-curricular activities is emphasized—both to balance academics and foster skills like teamwork. Students begin to develop strong independent study and work habits now, in preparation for later, more advanced studies.

Our Primary program exceeds Ontario Curriculum standards and offers a skills-based approach to learning in all subject areas, including Language, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Social Studies, Computer Studies, Music, French, Visual Arts, Drama, Physical Education and Health programming.

We're committed to ensuring every student is challenged at every stage of their unique journey. Students who master set skills at the Primary level will be provided with enrichment opportunities in all areas of the curriculum.
