Volunteering at the Food Bank

Today the grade 6 classes worked to make a difference in their community by volunteering at one of Canada’s largest food banks. Students were split into three teams to label and package cans of black beans and oatmeal. Their hard work and collaboration was outstanding. Together, the grade 6 classes packaged over 1,400 pounds of food!

CityNews was filming live to spread awareness. They learned that Toronto is in the midst of a food scarcity crisis. The Daily Bread Food Bank saw nearly 270,000 visits in March, which is the highest number in its 40-year history.

The 6’s were left wondering what else they could do to help. They will continue to brainstorm this afternoon.

Amazing citizenship, grade 6!
